What is Yeast Overgrowth?

You'll commonly hear the terms "yeast overgrowth" and "candida" used interchangeably. Candida, or candida albicans, is a specific strain of yeast. Candida can be classified as a yeast overgrowth, but not all overgrowths are candida. Only some yeast overgrowths will be treated with diet, such as those that specifically inhabit the gut. Some yeast overgrowths may require additional oral washes or skin ointments to completely remove the growth.

Some symptoms that warrant gut testing are:

-Gas, bloating, and diarrhea or constipation

-Fatigue or brain fog

-Sugar or carb cravings

-Skin issues

-Recurrent vaginal or oral yeast infections

These symptoms can also align with other conditions, making it unwise to treat without confirming the specific condition. It's also likely that other conditions can lead to dysbiosis, so treatment must also factor in the root cause. Each case is specific to the individual. Holistic nutrition focuses on biochemical individuality, meaning each individual has complex and unique needs. A one size fits all approach simply isn't going to help someone reach optimal health.

Our process:

  • After your initial appointment, we will send you a yeast overgrowth questionnaire.
  • If you score highly on this questionnaire, we will recommend you get a more comprehensive gut test done
  • You will complete this test at home and send in the sample for testing
  • When your results arrive, you will review these with one of our gut specialists
  • We will make recommendations for you based on the severity of the test results and the specific strain identified

We encourage our clients to take control of their own health. Although traditional medicine is important in helping us maintain our health, it doesn't always offer us the most individualized treatment and doesn't always help us reach optimal health. If you feel something is wrong or feels off, our services can help you dive deeper into the problem and help you feel like the best version of you. You know yourself better than anyone. Let us point in the right direction so you can advocate for yourself.
